About SI
The Managing Director of Strategy International is Professor Ross Babbage. Ross has held senior positions in the Australian Public Service, in business and in academia. Previous positions include Head of Strategic Analysis in the Office of National Assessments. In the mid-1980’s he led the branches in the Department of Defence responsible for ANZUS policy and then Force Development. Through the 1990s, Ross Babbage was a senior executive with ADI Limited, Australia’s largest defence company.

In 2000 he was appointed the inaugural Director of the Centre for International Strategic Analysis in Perth. In 2003 and 2004 he served as Head of the Strategic and Defence Studies Centre at the Australian National University.
Ross Babbage is also Chairman of the The Kokoda Foundation, a not-for-profit corporation committed to researching Australia’s most difficult future security challenges and encouraging new generations of high-grade strategic thinkers. In addition, he is a Council Member of the International Institute for Strategic Studies in London and an Adjunct Professor in strategic and defence studies at the Australian National University.
Ross Babbage has Bachelor and Masters degrees in economics from the University of Sydney and a PhD in International Relations from the Australian National University. He is author of A Coast Too Long: Defending Australia Beyond the 1990s (Allen & Unwin, Sydney, 1990), Rethinking Australia’s Defence (University of Queensland Press, St Lucia, 1980) and Getting Real –Reviewing Australia’s Defence Capabilities (ASPI, Canberra, forthcoming).
